Red Grouse in Shetland (SBRC)
It is unclear when Red Grouse were first introduced into Shetland but birds continued to be brought to the islands throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries. At present we do not have a clear picture of their distribution and have little idea if the population is increasing or decreasing. As with many species it is important for us to continue getting records even from squares where they have been recorded already, as that may enable us to establish how the population is faring.
